We are building Model-Driven Apps, Power Apps Portal using Common Data Service -
Model-Driven Apps -
Model-Driven Apps are built on top of the Common Data Services used to help rapidly build forms, processes, and business rules.
They focus on argeting heavier apps that are intended to
be used intensively.
Model-driven apps in PowerApps are based on underlying data, specifically, the data stored in Common Data Service (CDS). CDS is a secure, cloud-based storage space that organizations can
use to store business application data. Model-driven apps are used for creating end-to-end solutions.

By using Power Apps and Dynamics 365 we can create a new type of app called Portals to create a website that can be extended to users who are outside your organization and can sign in with a wide variety of identities, or even browse the content anonymously.
It also features a revamped end-to-end experience for makers to quickly create a website, customize it with pages, layout, and content, reuse page design through templates, add forms, views, and other key data from Common Data Service, and publish to users.
Key capabilities of PowerApps Portals:
2. Build websites easily with a new, dedicated portal designer.
3. Integrate with Microsoft services to enrich content.
4. Model complex business process using pro dev extensibility.
Common Data Service -
Common Data Service, abbreviated as CDS, is a data storage service. Like a database. We can use CDS to store data in the form of tables, which is called as Entities. Common Data Service is a
service that is used mainly in the Power Apps portal; however, it is accessible through other Power Platform services and Microsoft Dynamics. The data can be loaded into CDS entities through multiple ways, and it can be also extracted from there through different methods. CDS is a data storage and retrieval system, like a database.
Benefits of Common Data Service –
- It gives a free hand and easy way to work with any data type while building an app without any worries about the storage of different data types being used, including images, strings, and other types of content
- It has been built from the perspective of a citizen rather than a developer, so it enables a layman to create any data types without any worries.
- Common Data service offers users a common space where they can store collective data from all the apps and then perform transformations over it to meet the expected results in the business apps.
- Common Data Service offers an easy to manage user interface which helps in managing the content, data, and data type.
- Common Data Service has Role-Based Security which allows and assists us in controlling access to entities and data based upon the roles of users in the organization.
- Logic and Validations which have been applied over applications are also applied over entities in the Common Data Service to maintain validation across the application.
